The ICT Division, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Government of Bangladesh, in collaboration with the Embassy of Bangladesh in Bangkok, going to organize an engaging side-event titled “Smart Innovation for Sustainable Development: Perspective from Bangladesh and the Region,”. This event will take place during the 80th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) on April 22, 2024.

Over the past decade, Bangladesh has emerged as a global leader in digital innovation, transforming service delivery and bridging the digital divide. Innovative ICT solutions like Digital Centers, AI-based helplines, and the myGov platform have revolutionized access to public services, saving billions in time, cost, and travel for citizens. Bangladesh’s success has inspired collaborations with countries like Fiji, Philippines, Somalia, Yemen, Jordan, South Sudan and Turkey to scale up similar initiatives.
The event will spotlight Bangladesh’s journey towards a “Smart Bangladesh by 2041,” leveraging ICT infrastructure for inclusive development. Through initiatives like the “e-Quality Centre for Inclusive Innovation,” Bangladesh aims to eliminate the digital divide globally.
This side-event aims to showcase how digital innovation drives Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Bangladesh and the Asia-Pacific region, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among policymakers, development practitioners, and stakeholders.
The possible outcomes of the side event will be: efforts to hasten Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are propelled by collaborative digital innovation, igniting global awareness on ICT’s potency in SDG attainment. Investment impetus in digital solutions for SDGs surges, buoyed by shared best practices and illuminating case studies. Partnerships are fostered, facilitating technology transfer and bolstering capacity building initiatives.
This high-level event will engage representatives from UN ESCAP member states, government officials, development agencies, international organizations, civil society, academia, and the private sector attending the 80th Session of ESCAP.
