World Experts united at a Webinar of SSN4PSI titled “Uninterrupted Skills and Post COVID Jobs”

South-South Network for Public Service Innovation (SSN4PSI), United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) organized an interactive and very fruitful webinar titled: “Future of Work: Uninterrupted Skills and Post COVID Jobs” on July 2nd 2020. The participants from around the world gathered on the online platform to enhance knowledge and share experience and expertise of delivering uninterrupted supply skilled workforce in this pandemic situation and thinking of post covid jobs. Accordingly during the webinar, the Network members constituting, experts, academia and governments shared their experience and discussed the assumed nature of post covid world; post covid jobs and required skills, ways of skill development, action points of industry and academia, government policy, scope of utilizing South-South Network for Public service Innovation (SSN4PSI) etc.

Mr. Denis Nkala, Regional Resident Representative United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) made the opening remark. The first session was moderated by Mr. Abul Kalam Azad, Chair Generation Unlimited (Gen U) with an open panel discussion of sharing experience on ‘how they are managing present situation and thinking for future by the representatives of different country governments and development agencies. Among others the led panelists were Mr. Ronald Rojas, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICN), Ms. Abosede Alimi, Director Lagos State Employment Trust Fund Government of Nigeria, Mr. Kishore Kumar Singh, Senior Decent Work and Skills Specialist ILO Bangladesh, Ms. Veera Mendonca, Deputy Resident Representative, UNICEF Bangladesh, Representative form Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, The Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Md. Akhter Hossain, Secretary,Ministry of Youth and Sports , Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. Munshi Shahabuddin Ahmed, Secretary, Technical and Madrasah Education Division, Ministry of Education Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

The second session was more interactive and participatory facilitated by Mr. Asad-Uz-Zaman, Lead, Future of Work and South- South Cooperation-Aspire to Innovate (a2i) and his team where the participants were grouped through zoom-room break out system and got scope to exchange knowledge from one country to another and prepared presentation of their best practices and way forward.

The webinar ends with the third session of 6 group presentations moderated by Mr. Anir Chowdhury Policy Advisor Aspire to Innovate (a2i), in which each group presented their ongoing best practices, future thoughts and expressed their intention to exchange the knowledge, expertise and replicable solutions among the countries around the world promoting south – south and triangular cooperation specifically aiming to ensure initiation of appropriate responses in COVID-19 crisis and accelerate post COVID recovery.
