HLPF Side Event on Leaving No One Behind through Data Revolution, 2018, UN HQ, New York, US
Leaving no one behind”, the key message on inclusion, is at the heart of the 2030 agenda. The poorest and most vulnerable people chronically face social discrimination, financial exclusion, and various barriers due to geographical, gender, environmental or other cultural factors. Non-availability of data on these issues would pose a great challenge before the Governments in their implementation efforts of the 2030 Agenda. Data can play a critical role in addressing such exclusion. However, most countries, especially the developing ones, face data gaps that lead to inaccurate, delayed, piece-meal tracking of development progress, and narrow, uncoordinated, duplicated, wasteful planning for development and untargeted, ineffective, counterproductive policy formulation vis-à-vis the inclusion agenda.
